The Miami Dolphins are scouting a rivalry game between the University of Iowa and Iowa State University on Saturday, per one report. This contest is likely just one of many games the Dolphins are scouting across the country this weekend.
The Hawkeyes and Cyclones entered the day with a combined record of 3-0, and the Cyclones are even ranked. As of this writing, Iowa State has a 13-10 lead at halftime.
It’s understandable why the Dolphins are scouting the Iowa and Iowa State matchup specifically, as there are some interesting storylines on both teams.
Starting with the Hawkeyes, they have an intriguing young running back in Xavier Williams. The 19-year-old has gotten off to a strong start this season in his first-ever FBS action, as he ran for 122 yards and one touchdown in his season debut versus the University at Albany on Aug. 30.
Moreover, Hawkeyes wide receiver Kaden Wetjen has a knack for fielding kickoff and punt returns. Last season, he led the entire FBS in total kickoff return yardage, and he also ranked tops in his conference in total punt return yardage. He had one kickoff return for a touchdown and one punt return for a touchdown.
As for the Cyclones, they employ a promising signal-caller in Rocco Becht. He entered the day having thrown for five touchdowns compared to zero interceptions in two games this season.
A defensive back for the Cyclones by the name of Jamison Patton is enjoying a standout start to the 2025 college campaign as well. He’s totaled six solo tackles, seven assisted tackles, 13 combined tackles and one interception already in his junior season (excluding the current game against Iowa).
These are just a few of the interesting names involved in the game, as both teams certainly have a number of other guys worth watching. It’s anyone’s guess who the Dolphins came to see specifically.
Miami will scout countless players this season, but given the team’s attendance at this game, maybe the Dolphins will add a member of the Cyclones or Hawkeyes to their roster with a pick in next year’s draft.
