Report: Dolphins remain in ‘active discussions’ with CB Rasul Douglas

The Miami Dolphins could benefit from adding a talented player at the cornerback position after they traded their best cornerback, Jalen Ramsey, to the Pittsburgh Steelers not that long ago.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins remain in “active discussions” for one of the more proven cornerbacks left on the open market — Rasul Douglas.

Douglas, 29, was a third-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2017 NFL Draft and has played for four teams — the Eagles, Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers — over the course of his NFL career.

Douglas was slotted as a left cornerback for the Bills in the 2024 season, and he finished with 58 combined tackles, 43 solo tackles, five tackles for loss and five passes defended across 15 starts.

He’s a bothersome defensive player who led the league in one important defensive statistic in one of his seasons with the Packers, as he finished with two interceptions returned for touchdowns back in the 2021 campaign.

His extensive playoff experience could come in handy for a Dolphins team that is trying to get over the hump and win its first playoff game since the 2000 season. Douglas won a Super Bowl playing for the Eagles early on in his NFL career and just recently was part of a deep playoff run to the AFC Championship Game with the Bills.

Maybe his time playing with the Bills will help give the Dolphins an upper hand against their divisional rivals in the 2025 season, as Douglas likely knows many of Buffalo’s tendencies.

Miami will take on the Bills twice in the coming season, and Buffalo has had the team’s number for a long time.

Across the last 14 meetings between the two teams, Buffalo has won all but one of them, including the past six matchups.

Whether it’s Douglas or another talented cornerback who’s available, hopefully the Dolphins sign a cornerback soon in light of Ramsey’s departure.

Securing a talented player at the position could be important in making sure the team’s secondary doesn’t take a noticeable step back in the 2025 season.
