NFL insider believes Dolphins may not have a market for Jalen Ramsey until another team has an injury

It’s been public knowledge for a while now that the Miami Dolphins are looking to find a new home for cornerback Jalen Ramsey this offseason.

For perspective on just how long the Ramsey saga has gone on for, the trade rumors went public on April 15, and he’s still currently a member of the Dolphins.

One NFL insider put together a fascinating hypothesis as to perhaps why Ramsey hasn’t had a huge market for his services. Mike Florio believes that it’s possible the Dolphins might have to wait for someone on another one of the league’s teams to go down with an injury before Ramsey will truly have a trade market.

“The fact that a trade hasn’t happened proves that it’s not going smoothly,” Florio wrote. “Ultimately, the Dolphins may have to wait for someone with another team to get injured before a true market for Ramsey’s contract will materialize.

“And they may have to pay Ramsey, one week at a time, until it happens.”

Miami has made moves this offseason that suggest the team is preparing for life on the field without Ramsey in the fold. For one, the Dolphins have signed cornerback Bump Cooper, who went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. Miami has inked Kendall Sheffield to a deal as well, and he appeared in six games with the New York Jets last season.

On top of the Cooper and Sheffield signings, the Dolphins used one of their picks in the 2025 NFL Draft on a player at the cornerback position. Miami picked Jason Marshall in the fifth round of the draft following a four-season stint of college football for him at the University of Florida.

The Dolphins deserve credit for their work keeping their depth at the cornerback position in check with Ramsey’s likely departure pending, but at the same time, it will be very difficult for any of those players to replicate what Ramsey brought to the table on the defensive side of the ball.

Ramsey started all 17 of Miami’s contests in the 2024 season and ended up with 60 combined tackles, 39 solo tackles, 21 assisted tackles, six tackles for loss and four quarterback hits. He also picked off two passes and recorded 11 passes defended.

In light of Florio giving his opinion on the Ramsey quagmire in Miami, fans of the Dolphins should pay extra close attention to the injury reports of opposing teams. It’s possible there will be an injury that will kickstart the Dolphins and another team having serious talks about a Ramsey trade.
