Report: Ex-Miami Dolphins analytics guru joins divisional rival ahead of 2025 season

ESPN’s Seth Walder reported back in March that Max Mulitz was no longer with the Miami Dolphins organization after he served as the team’s director of coaching analytics.

Months removed from that report, Walder has revealed that Mulitz has found a home with another NFL team ahead of the 2025 season. He has been hired by the New England Patriots, who have a brand new head coach at the helm in Mike Vrabel.

The Patriots have made some offseason moves that put them in a prime position to potentially be one of the more improved teams in the NFL this coming season.

New England drafted some standout prospects — like offensive tackle Will Campbell, running back TreVeyon Henderson and wide receiver Kyle Williams — in the 2025 NFL Draft and also added an elite offensive player via free agency.

New England inked star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a three-year deal earlier in the offseason, and while he’s still recuperating from a torn ACL, he should make quarterback Drake Maye’s life easier out on the field when he gets back to full strength.

In May, Cynthia Frelund of NFL Network wrote an article in which she predicted win totals for every squad in the AFC, with her model expecting the Patriots to double their win total from the 2024 campaign and pick up eight victories.

The Patriots are trying to get back to their winning ways after they’ve been plagued by losing seasons in recent years. New England has missed the playoffs in four of the last five seasons now, but it wasn’t long ago that the team was a perennial Super Bowl contender.

The franchise won six Super Bowls over less than a two-decade span with quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick running the show.

Mulitz could aid the Patriots in their quest to become a strong NFL team once again, and the Dolphins will have to hope that any success New England enjoys doesn’t get in the way of their own aspirations.
