Miami Dolphins Rumors

Report: Jalen Ramsey’s desire to ‘jump ship’ has been heard about for ‘weeks’ by Dolphins insider

Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network dropped a bombshell report regarding Miami Dolphins star cornerback Jalen Ramsey on Tuesday. According to them, Ramsey and the Dolphins are “mutually set to explore trade options.” Ramsey has spent each of the past two seasons in Miami and earned a Pro Bowl selection in his inaugural campaign with the team.

Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald added an extra layer to the report. The Dolphins insider explained that he’s heard about Ramsey’s desire to depart the team for weeks now.

“I’ve heard about Ramsey’s desire to jump ship for weeks, and there has been internet speculation about an impending trade since this past weekend,” Kelly wrote.

It’s worth noting that Ramsey never formally requested a trade, according to Dolphins general manager Chris Grier. Rather, it appears that both sides got to this point together.

The “internet speculation” Kelly mentioned seems to be a reference to some buzz on social media that started last week about the Dolphins trading away an “All-Pro player.”

Ramsey is one of a few players on the Dolphins who have earned All-Pro honors at one point or another during their NFL careers. The 30-year-old is a three-time All-Pro, and his most recent selection came back when he played for the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 season.

While Ramsey is starting to get up there in age a bit, his level of play with Miami in the 2024 season suggests that he still has what it takes to bolster a team’s defensive unit in a major way. He totaled two interceptions, 11 passes defended, 60 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, four quarterback hits and one sack with the Dolphins last season.

On top of the impressive numbers he put up on the defensive side of the ball, Ramsey also was consistently available for the Dolphins, as he started every one of the team’s 17 games. Unfortunately, his efforts weren’t enough to help the team get to the playoffs, as Miami fell short and finished just under .500.

If the Dolphins do indeed trade Ramsey soon, hopefully they can at least get a decent haul in return for a player of his caliber. After all, Miami gave up a third-round pick along with tight end Hunter Long when the team traded for him in 2023.
