Former Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Terron Armstead recently announced his decision to retire from the NFL following a 12-year stint in the league, and he’s retiring with quite a splendid resume. After all, Armstead earned Pro Bowl nods in nearly half of his NFL seasons played. He’s walking away as a five-time Pro Bowler.
However, there is one glaring thing missing from his resume, and that’s a Super Bowl ring. Armstead knocked on the door of a Super Bowl appearance earlier on in his NFL career when he played for the New Orleans Saints and maybe would have gotten there if not for an infamous no-call.
Armstead reflected on the no-call in question in a recent post on X.
So many great memories and some heartbreakers too!
I will never get over the “No Call” NFC Championship game, we should have a ring! But I also know we got back up and dominated the league again! #WhoDat forever in my heart!! ⚜️⚜️⚜️

Late in the fourth quarter of an NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams back in January of 2019 and with the game tied up at 20, quarterback Drew Brees threw a pass to wide receiver Tommylee Lewis, who was walloped by a Rams defender.

A pass interference call would have put the Saints in great position to score a touchdown or drain the clock before kicking a field goal. But no flag was thrown on the play, forcing New Orleans to kick a field goal with nearly two minutes still left on the clock.
The Saints went on to lose the game in overtime by a final score of 26-23.
That playoff run was maybe Armstead’s best shot to win a ring at the NFL level. He never appeared in another NFC Championship Game as a member of the Saints, and the Dolphins didn’t win so much as a single playoff game during his three-season stint in Miami.
While Armstead carved out some very solid seasons with the Dolphins in the later stages of his NFL career, it’s likely that he will be best remembered among fans of the league for his time playing in New Orleans.
He spent a large majority of his time in the league with New Orleans, considering he was a Saint for the first nine seasons of his NFL tenure. Additionally, it was the Saints who took a chance on him out of college, as they selected him with the No. 75 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
