According to some reporting that surfaced on Wednesday, the Miami Dolphins are signing linebacker Willie Gay Jr. to a one-year deal.

On Thursday, Dolphins star Tyreek Hill offered a stamp of approval on the deal. He and Gay were teammates on the Kansas City Chiefs for a couple seasons.

Hill was apparently without access to his X account for a little while for some reason. Before he reacted to the newest Dolphins addition, it had been over a week since his last post. Now, he can get back to doing what he does best on social media: trolling.

Gay could be an impactful piece for the Dolphins, and he knows what it takes to win at the NFL level. During his time with the Chiefs, he won two Super Bowls, and he was a starter during both of those championship runs.

After spending four seasons with Kansas City, he spent the 2024 campaign with the New Orleans Saints. He didn’t have his best season with New Orleans but still has a nice resume overall at the NFL level and should give Miami’s defense some added punch.

Across five years (and 72 regular-season games) in the NFL, Gay has racked up four interceptions, three forced fumbles, 22 passes defended, seven sacks, 261 combined tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 10 quarterback hits.

This past season, he was in a losing situation with the Saints, who went 5-12. He’s likely motivated to wash that taste away in the 2025 campaign, and he’ll look to do so with a Miami team that needs a turnaround after a losing season of its own and an 8-9 final record.

Hill, for his part, has something to prove this coming season after he had a down year in the 2024 campaign. With his former teammate now in the fold with him, Hill will hopefully be ready to go when the new season arrives.

As a franchise, the Dolphins are still hunting for their first playoff win since the 2000 season and their first Super Bowl victory since way back in the 1973 campaign.
