Miami Dolphins Rumors

Report: Miami Dolphins ‘love’ Jonathan Allen, who is immediately available to sign new deal

The Miami Dolphins reportedly “love” defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, a veteran who was just released by the Washington Commanders. Allen is available to sign a new deal immediately because of his release.

Allen’s time with the Commanders came to an end on Friday with his release. He spent every one of his first eight NFL seasons in Washington and earned a pair of Pro Bowl selections as a Commander.

He’s been relatively durable during his time in the NFL, but the 2024 season was an exception. Allen missed a sizable chunk of the season with a torn left pectoral muscle, as he suited up in just eight of the team’s 17 regular-season games. He did play in all three of Washington’s playoff games.

Allen was expected to miss more time last season than he did. His injury was initially believed to be season-ending until doctors found out that the tear wasn’t as serious as once feared.

When he’s at his best, he’s a highly impactful defensive player who has a real knack for racking up sacks. He totaled a career-high nine sacks in the 2021 season, which just so happened to be one of the seasons where he was selected to participate in the Pro Bowl.

For comparison, defensive tackle Zach Sieler was the only player on the Dolphins to finish with nine or more sacks in the 2024 campaign. He had 10.

The addition of Allen would seemingly add an additional layer of lethality to a Dolphins defensive unit that enjoyed some success a season ago under defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.

The 30-year-old is clearly a name for Dolphins fans to watch out for in rumors. With any luck, he’ll land with Miami sooner rather than later. But fans of the team should expect several teams to be interested in acquiring the former University of Alabama standout.

This will be an important offseason for the Dolphins as they try to rebound from a 2024 campaign in which they had a losing record and missed the playoffs in disappointing fashion.
