Dolphins insider predicts team would ‘probably’ draft Ashton Jeanty if he were available at No. 13

The Miami Dolphins have some work to do this offseason after falling short of expectations in the 2024 campaign and missing the playoffs.

The 2025 NFL Draft will provide the Dolphins with one avenue to make some key additions, and while they already have some talented young running backs, team insider Omar Kelly thinks the Dolphins would “probably” grab Boise State University product Ashton Jeanty at No. 13 overall if he were available.

Some of the latest mock drafts have Jeanty landing with the Dallas Cowboys at No. 12 overall. That obviously puts him within striking distance of the Dolphins, but nobody should be banking on him being available when Miami makes its first selection.

Jeanty was simply otherworldly in college, especially in his final season. Across 14 games with Boise State in the 2024 campaign, he ran for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns. He helped Boise reach the College Football Playoff and finished second in Heisman voting.

What complicates matters for the Dolphins is that running backs De’Von Achane and Jaylen Wright are just 23 and 21 years old respectively. One could argue that the team would be better served using the No. 13 pick to address a roster area that needs immediate help or lacks young talent.

Achane is in line to have a big role with the Dolphins in the 2025 season. He just wrapped up a 2024 campaign in which he had 907 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, 592 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. It was just his second NFL season.

Wright, meanwhile, just wrapped his rookie campaign. He had 249 rushing yards. He didn’t make much of an impact in the passing game.

If the Dolphins want to draft the best player available and Jeanty is on the board at No. 13, then scooping him up might make sense. But if the team is looking to draft based on roster needs, then going in a different direction would be logical.

Of course, none of this will matter if Jeanty goes to the Cowboys or perhaps comes off the board even sooner than that. The guesswork will come to an end in late April when the draft officially takes place.
