Defensive end Calais Campbell is now long in the tooth at 38 years old, but he proved with the Miami Dolphins in the 2024 season that he still has plenty left in the tank.
He was one of the more impactful players for the Dolphins on the defensive side of the ball, as he ranked second on the team in tackles for loss (12) and finished tied for the third-most sacks of any Dolphin with five.
Campbell is set to hit free agency, however, meaning his stint in Miami could soon be in jeopardy. According to Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post, the Baltimore Ravens stick out as a team that Campbell could land with.
“This is what โ Campbell and the Dolphins will have to figure out a price that makes both sides happy,” Habib wrote. “That may not be easy. Last year the figure was $3.1 million. His performance clearly was worth several times that. This one will be intriguing. Also, keep an eye on one of his old teams, the Baltimore Ravens. Besides waving a wad of cash, they could offer a final run at a ring, which has eluded Campbell.”
The former second-round pick suited up with the Ravens earlier on in the decade. He played in 41 combined regular-season games with the team from the 2020 season through the 2022 campaign. Campbell earned a Pro Bowl nod in his first season in Baltimore after he racked up 28 combined tackles, five tackles for loss and 10 quarterback hits across 12 games played.
He seemingly would have a real puncher’s chance to finally add a Super Bowl title to his resume should he spurn the Dolphins for another chance to play for the Ravens in the near future. Baltimore employs one of the biggest names in all of football today in Lamar Jackson, who just so happens to be an elite quarterback. The Ravens have also been consistent contenders in recent years, as they have qualified for the playoffs in six of their last seven seasons.
Campbell may have yet to win a Super Bowl ring since he was selected in the 2008 NFL Draft, but he’s come close to winning the league’s ultimate prize before. He appeared in the Super Bowl as a rookie with the Arizona Cardinals, but Arizona lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers and signal-caller Ben Roethlisberger by a final score of 27-23.
Whether it’s as a member of the Dolphins, Ravens or another team, hopefully Campbell will experience what it’s like to win on the NFL’s grandest stage by the time his career comes to an end.
