Report: Dolphins will not active 3 key players for Week 14 matchup vs. Jets

The Miami Dolphins’ matchup against the New York Jets is less than 24 hours from kicking off, and news has surfaced indicating that a trio of productive players for Miami won’t suit up in the contest.

Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have decided against activating linebackers Bradley Chubb and Cameron Goode off the physically unable to perform list. Miami also opted not to activate long snapper Blake Ferguson off the non-football injury list and instead called up Zach Triner from their practice squad.

Both Chubb and Goode have yet to suit up for the Dolphins since the start of the 2024 regular season after they both went down with knee injuries in the latter end of last season. The former led the NFL in forced fumbles a season ago with six, while the latter played in every one of Miami’s 17 contests as a rookie and totaled a pair of quarterback hits.

Meanwhile, Ferguson hasn’t seen the field for Miami since the team picked up a win over the New England Patriots back on Oct. 6. The Dolphins have yet to reveal the reasoning behind his prolonged absence.

Perhaps Triner will prove to be up to the task if he does indeed play for the Dolphins on Sunday in place of the injured Ferguson. He has already seen some action with Miami this season and has several seasons of NFL experience under his belt. Before he joined the Dolphins, he spent some time playing for another NFL team based in the state of Florida: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He started out his pro career with the Buccaneers back in the 2019 campaign, and the Massachusetts native appeared in every one of the team’s 16 contests as a neophyte.

Luckily for the Dolphins, Sunday’s game still stands out as one that Miami should win, even with all of the injuries the squad is dealing with. After all, the Jets sit near the bottom of the AFC East standings with a record of 3-9 and are losers of their last three contests. New York hasn’t picked up a win since it beat the Houston Texans on Oct. 31.
