Ex-Dolphins running back campaigns for team to fire Mike McDaniel: ‘He sucks’

The Green Bay Packers snapped the Miami Dolphins’ winning streak at three games on Thursday. In light of Miami picking up yet another loss in frigid temperatures, former Dolphins running back Reggie Bush took to Instagram and advocated for the team to fire head coach Mike McDaniel.

Bush spent the 2011 and 2012 NFL campaigns in a Dolphins uniform. He was an elite player at his position during his time in Miami, as he totaled 2,072 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns as a Dolphin. Bush also ran for a career-high 1,086 yards in the 2011 regular season.

His tenure with the Dolphins came to an end well before McDaniel became the team’s leader from the sidelines, as the latter is in just his third season as Miami’s head coach. While McDaniel has helped the Dolphins be a dynamic offense in recent years, there still are valid reasons to criticize his tenure with the squad.

For one, Miami didn’t parlay its regular-season success during McDaniel’s first two seasons into any playoff wins. After the team won 11 of its 17 games in the 2023 regular season, the Dolphins lost to the Kansas City Chiefs by a final score of 26-7 in their first playoff bout.

Granted, the franchise has been dealing with playoff woes since years before McDaniel took the coaching reins. The last time Miami won a single playoff contest came all the way back in the year 2000.

On top of Miami’s lack of playoff success with McDaniel leading the way, the team has also struggled mightily to win games in cold temperatures with him in charge. After the team fell to Green Bay, Miami has now dropped each of its past 12 games when the weather has been 40 degrees or below.

Fortunately for McDaniel and company, the team will play its next regular-season contest at home against the New York Jets on Dec. 8. The Dolphins can get one win away from the .500 mark with a victory over the Jets, who have the second-worst record of any team in the AFC East division at 3-8. The Jets are also riding a two-game losing streak.
