Miami’s latest stance on trading Tyreek Hill before the deadline

The Miami Dolphins reportedly aren’t interested in moving star wide receiver Tyreek Hill before the trade deadline this season.

“They’re not going to move Tyreek Hill,” The Athletic’s Dianna Russini said.

Miami is just 2-4 through six games this season, really struggling with starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa sidelined due to a concussion. In the four games that Tagovailoa has missed, the Dolphins are just 1-3. Their lone win came against the 1-6 New England Patriots.

While Hill has struggled without Tagovailoa under center – he made just one catch in the Dolphins’ Week 7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts – it appears Miami intends on keeping him on the roster this season.

The veteran receiver is under contract with the Dolphins through the 2026 season, and he’s been dominant when Tagovailoa has been under center. It appears that the former first-round pick could return to the lineup for the Dolphins in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals, which would be a big boost for Miami and Hill.

Tagovailoa will practice on Wednesday, according to Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, a sign that he may be able to return from injured reserve if he clears concussion protocol.

Hill has enjoyed some of the best seasons of his career in Miami playing alongside Tagovailoa.

He put up 1,710 receiving yards in the 2022 season and an NFL-best 1,799 receiving yards last season. To top it off, Hill also led the NFL in receiving touchdowns in the 2023 campaign with 13.

However, he’s had to face a harsh reality in the 2024 season without Tagovailoa in the lineup for four games. The Dolphins simply don’t have the backup quarterback play needed to keep Hill producing at a high level.

Through six games, the eight-time Pro Bowler has just 24 catches for 294 yards and one touchdown. He had 130 receiving yards in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he has just 164 in the five games since.

Miami may believe that it still has a shot to make the playoffs if Tagovailoa returns, which would be a huge reason to keep Hill on the roster.

Hopefully, the Dolphins can make a run at some point in the 2024 season so there is a reason to keep the core pieces of the roster intact beyond this season.
