Colts receive massive injury update on quarterback Anthony Richardson before Week 7 vs. Dolphins

Ahead of the Miami Dolphins’ Week 7 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Oct. 20, the Colts got a seismic update regarding the injury status of one of their signal-callers in Anthony Richardson.

Per Colts head coach Shane Steichen, Richardson will take the field for Indianapolis against Miami barring any setbacks.

Richardson was drafted by the Colts with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, and he seemingly has yet to prove to Indianapolis that he was worthy of such a high pick.

In his rookie campaign, the 2023 regular season, he was limited to just four games after he suffered a season-ending AC joint sprain in Indianapolis’ Week 5 contest.

The 22-year-old has been better at keeping himself on the field so far in his sophomore season, as he has suited up in four of the Colts’ six games to this point. However, while he’s been somewhat available, he hasn’t been all that productive.

Through four starts, Richardson has double the number of interceptions as he does passing touchdowns (six compared to three). Only one player has thrown more interceptions in the 2024 regular season, as Will Levis has thrown the ball in the hands of the opposite team a league-leading seven times.

Longtime NFL quarterback Joe Flacco has been the Colts’ starting signal-caller while Richardson has been sidelined, and he arguably played better than Richardson has in any game this season in the team’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 6. He threw for a whopping 359 passing yards and three passing touchdowns while converting 33 of his 44 passing attempts.

It’s of note that Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa recently received a positive injury update as well. Head coach Mike McDaniel is optimistic that Tagovailoa will suit up for the team before the end of the season, and Tagovailoa is eligible to return as early as the Dolphins’ showdown against the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 27.

Here’s to hoping that the Dolphins will win their second game in a row and get to the .500 mark on the season regardless if Richardson ends up playing.
