The Miami Dolphins are reportedly scouting at least two early-session college football matchups on Saturday.
As part of the day’s early session, the University of Pittsburgh is in action against the University of North Carolina, and the University of Missouri is taking on Texas A&M University. The Dolphins are represented at each of those games.
It’s possible that the Dolphins are also scouting other games around the country amid another busy Saturday of college football.
The Missouri-Texas A&M game features two of the top teams in the nation so far this season. Both teams are ranked, and they own a combined record of 8-1 between them.
The Tigers have yet to pick up a loss, and they are led by a rock-solid quarterback in Brady Cook. He entered Saturday’s action having completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 946 yards, four touchdowns and one interception in four games. He also entered the day with four rushing touchdowns on the season.
As for Texas A&M, its only loss of the season to this point came against another ranked program — the University of Notre Dame — back on Aug. 31.
Conversely, neither Pittsburgh nor UNC are ranked, but their records are still nothing to scoff at. The Panthers are undefeated at 4-0, and the Tar Heels have won three of their five contests.
Another impressive quarterback playing on Saturday is Eli Holstein for Pitt. He entered the day having totaled 1,186 passing yards along with 12 passing touchdowns compared to only two interceptions in his first four games of the season with the Panthers. He also entered Saturday’s game with 189 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns on the year.
Perhaps the Dolphins have scouts in attendance for the two games in question partly to get closer looks at the aforementioned signal-callers in Cook and Holstein. It’s worth noting, however, that Holstein is only a freshman. Cook, for his part, is a veteran at the collegiate level.
When factoring in Tua Tagovailoa’s injury history and the fact that he is still sidelined with a concussion, it may be the right move for Miami to add a solid backup quarterback in the future who could serve as a quality safety blanket behind Tagovailoa.
