Report: Dolphins plan to open Odell Beckham Jr.’s practice window this week

A rumor indicates that there seems to be a solid chance the Miami Dolphins will open wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.’s practice window in the near future.

“Beckham did not take part in training camp and began the year on the PUP list after recovering from a procedure,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport wrote. “The plan has been to open his practice window this week, sources tell colleague Tom Pelissero, but things remain fluid and his return timeline is to be determined.”

Beckham signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins after he spent the 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens. He has yet to make his regular-season debut with Miami, and following the Dolphins’ matchup against the Tennessee Titans on Monday, the team won’t play again until it takes on the New England Patriots on Oct. 6.

The Dolphins are seemingly desperate in their search of someone who can provide a boost to the team’s offense after back-to-back underwhelming showings against the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks, and hopefully Beckham will give Miami a shot in the arm. Against the Bills, the Dolphins scored only 10 points, and all of those points came before Tua Tagovailoa left the game with a concussion.

Then, with Skylar Thompson getting the start at the quarterback position versus Seattle, the Dolphins’ offensive attack struggled to put up points once again. When the game was all said and done, Miami scored only three points after it went scoreless across the final three quarters.

If Beckham’s numbers with the Ravens a season ago are of any indication, he still has some productive football left in the tank, even if his best years in the NFL are likely already behind him.

In 14 games played and six starts, he totaled 565 receiving yards and 27 first downs receiving while averaging 40.4 receiving yards per contest. It’s worth noting that Beckham put up these statistics after the 2022 season came and went without him getting signed by an NFL team since he was recovering from a torn ACL suffered in the Super Bowl the season prior.

It’s unclear as to who will be starting at quarterback when Beckham makes his return to the team, but Tyler Huntley has been named as the Dolphins’ starting signal-caller for their game against Tennessee.

Regardless of when Beckham will be good to go for Miami, hopefully he will be still be able to make a real mark with the Dolphins’ offensive attack, even with his 32nd birthday just over one month away.
