Miami Dolphins Rumors

Report: Tyler Huntley expected to start in Week 4 vs. Titans

Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the consensus view is that signal-caller Tyler Huntley will get the start for the Miami Dolphins in Monday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

Huntley was signed by the Dolphins after the team’s starting quarterback — Tua Tagovailoa — suffered the third concussion of his NFL career against the Buffalo Bills earlier in the month. Huntley has yet to suit up for the Dolphins — or any other NFL team for that matter — since the start of the 2024 regular season.

The 26-year-old spent the previous few seasons serving as a backup quarterback behind one of the best quarterbacks in the league today in Lamar Jackson before joining the Dolphins. In two of the four seasons of his pro career, Huntley had to step in and start a significant amount of games, and he made the most of his time on the field.

First, in the 2022 regular season, he suited up in six games (four starts) and earned a Pro Bowl selection after he accumulated 658 passing yards and two passing touchdowns while filling in for Jackson.

Rewind to the season prior, and Huntley totaled 1,081 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and 55 first downs passing across seven games played and four starts in the 2021 regular season.

Dolphins fans are hoping that Huntley will fare better against the Titans than Skylar Thompson did when he started against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 22. Thompson didn’t even play the whole game, as he exited the contest with a chest injury. But he finished with only 107 passing yards and also failed to throw a single passing touchdown in what was an embarrassing loss for head coach Mike McDaniel and company.

Miami needs a victory on Monday in order for the team to get back to the .500 mark on the season. The Dolphins have one just a single game all season, and that victory came against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Miami’s season opener on Sept. 8.

The team is currently riding a two-game losing streak, as the Dolphins dropped their earlier matchup against the Bills as well before losing to Seattle.
