With the Miami Dolphins’ season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars only one day away, Miami’s current roster isn’t exactly filled with spring chickens.
The Dolphins actually have the oldest roster in the entire NFL according to stats generated by The 33rd Team, as the average age of a player on the team is 27.30 years old. When it comes to only starters, Miami’s players are also the oldest with an average age of 27.92 years old.
The Minnesota Vikings (27.15), San Francisco 49ers (26.98), Washington Commanders (26.97) and Atlanta Falcons (26.89) round out the five oldest rosters in the NFL.
Conversely, the Green Bay Packers boast the youngest roster of any team in the league, as the average age on the squad is 25.11 years old.
The Dolphins have quite a few players who have already turned 30, but defensive tackle Calais Campbell is the oldest on the team by far. He recently turned 38 on Sept. 1 and has played in the NFL for well over a decade now, as he was a rookie in the 2008 campaign.
Campbell is long in the tooth, but he could have a sizable role with the Dolphins this season. After all, he started all 17 of the Falcons’ games during the 2023 regular season and finished with 6.5 sacks and 56 combined tackles.
Another one of the oldest players on Miami’s roster along with Campbell is safety Jordan Poyer. He signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in March after stints playing for the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles.
Miami may have an older roster compared to the rest of the NFL, but some of the team’s best players are on the younger side. For reference, running back De’Von Achane is fresh off a season in which he ran for 800 yards and eight touchdowns, yet he’s only 22 years old.
Tua Tagovailoa is 26 years old, and he threw for the most yards of any player in the league during the 2023 regular season with 4,624. He contributed 29 passing touchdowns and 222 first downs passing to boot.
