Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill and American sprinter Noah Lyles are two of the best athletes in the world at their respective sports, but there’s no love lost between them.
The two have engaged in a bit of beef with each other this summer, and Lyles just hit Hill with a backhanded compliment to add to the drama.
Asked to name a celebrity that would be a fast sprinter, Lyles picked Hill, but he threw some shade in the process.
@preclassic Which celebrity is your pick? ๐
“I’m gonna have to go with, gosh, I always forget his name — the football player, the one that thinks he’s fast — the Cheetah, something,” he said. “Tyreek Hill, that one, yeah, him.”
Even though the beef has spiraled into something legitimate, it might have started due to a misunderstanding.
Last summer, Lyles made headlines after he argued that teams who win the NBA Finals shouldn’t be described as “world champions” since the NBA isn’t a worldwide league. His comments were met with pushback by countless members of the sports world, although some people did agree with him.
This summer, during a media appearance, Hill was told that Lyles made those same comments about Super Bowl champions. But there doesn’t appear to be any public record of Lyles making such a claim about Super Bowl champions specifically, so there might have been a misunderstanding there.
In response to being told that Lyles made those comments about Super Bowl champions, Hill threw some major shade at the sprinter, and he sweetened the deal by saying that he would beat Lyles in a race.

Lyles later added more fuel to the fire.

โWhatโs the cheetah guy from football? Well, I canโt remember his name.โ

There has been talk about the two athletes racing each other for real, but it remains to be seen if that will come together.

Lyles just won two medals in the Paris Olympics — one gold and one bronze. Hill, meanwhile, is hoping to earn a Super Bowl ring this coming season with the Dolphins, which would be the second of his NFL career.
While Lyles and Hill clearly seem to have their differences, they’re both extremely talented athletes who bring a lot to the table in their respective sports. It will be interesting to see if their beef continues to evolve in the future.
