Miami Dolphins dealing with alarming problem in training camp ahead of 2024 season

As the Miami Dolphins prepare for the start of the 2024 NFL regular season, the team is having problems snapping the ball effectively in training camp.

New Dolphins center Aaron Brewer has struggled with his snaps in camp, and so have other players who have received reps at the position.

It’s possible that Miami’s quarterbacks have had a hand in the struggles, as chemistry is certainly key with any center-quarterback relationship. But no matter the cause, this is clearly a problem the Dolphins will need to clean up.

Brewer agreed to a three-year, $21 million deal with the Dolphins earlier in the offseason. Prior to joining the Dolphins, he put together a four-season stint playing for the Tennessee Titans and started all 17 of the team’s contests in the 2023 regular season.

Previous Dolphins center Connor Williams is no longer with the team. He is still a free agent, though ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported approximately a week ago that Williams has been in contract talks with the Seattle Seahawks after passing a physical.

While Williams himself had his fair share of snapping gaffes during his two-season stint with the Dolphins, Miami was still an elite offensive team during the 2023 regular season. Miami’s offense nearly averaged the most points per game in the NFL, posting a whopping 29.2 points per contest, the second-most of any of the league’s 32 teams behind only the Dallas Cowboys.

Additionally, Miami’s offense was the best in the NFL in terms of total yards per game. The Dolphins averaged 401.3 yards of offense per contest. For context, the San Fransisco 49ers — who ended up losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl — averaged the second-most yards per game in the league with 398.4.

Considering the start of the upcoming season is still weeks away, there is still time for Brewer and company to get things sorted out, but sooner would certainly be better.

Brewer’s first chance to take the field in game action for the Dolphins is coming up on the horizon, as the team will kick off its stint in the preseason with a matchup versus the Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 9.
