Jevon Holland ready to talk contract extension with Miami Dolphins

While quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s contract situation with the Miami Dolphins has made many headlines this offseason, he isn’t the only player looking for a new deal from the organization.

Among the others is safety Jevon Holland, who’s entering the final season of his rookie contract.

He said Thursday that whenever the Dolphins want to reach out regarding an extension, he’ll pick up the phone.

Holland has been a key piece for the Dolphins since they drafted him in the second round in 2021, appearing in 45 regular-season games since then and starting 42.

Last season, he was limited to 12 games, but he was very good when available. The 24-year-old ranked as one of the best safeties in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus, and tallied four passes defended, one interception, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He returned the interception for a touchdown.

He unfortunately wasn’t able to take the field in the playoffs against the Kansas City Chiefs due to knee troubles. Without him, the Dolphins lost handily.

In the 2022 season, he got to taste the playoffs and certainly rose to the occasion. He had two passes defended and one interception in a game the Dolphins barely lost to the Buffalo Bills.

There’s surely nothing Holland and the Dolphins would love more than for the University of Oregon product to help the team to some playoff success this coming season, with Miami still trying to capture its first playoff victory in over two decades. However, if there is contract uncertainty hanging over Holland during the 2024 campaign, that may put a bit of a strain on him.

Players like Tagovailoa, Holland and Tyreek Hill are all looking for new deals from the Dolphins, so the team certainly has its hands full. Tagovailoa was present but didn’t participate in practice on Thursday in a move that could have been related to his contract situation.

The 2024 campaign is approaching quickly, with the Dolphins preparing to open their season against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 8. As the season gets closer, Miami may feel an added sense of urgency to take care of the players in question.
