Report: Emmanuel Ogbah had interest from Kansas City Chiefs before reuniting with Miami Dolphins

According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs were interested in signing pass rusher Emmanuel Ogbah, who was available as a free agent before he reportedly agreed to a deal with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday.

Ogbah is returning to the Dolphins on a one-year deal worth as much as $5 million, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The defensive end is now set to play for the Dolphins for a fifth consecutive season after he had stints playing for the Chiefs as well as the Cleveland Browns earlier on in his pro career.

Ogbah didn’t play a major role for the Dolphins during the 2023 regular season under old defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. While he did appear in 15 of Miami’s 17 games, he logged a career-low one start. He finished with 20 combined tackles, seven solo tackles, 13 assisted tackles, three tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.

However, interestingly, he started in the Dolphins’ playoff loss to the Chiefs back in January and totaled four combined tackles, two solo tackles and two assisted tackles. He was also credited with one pass defended.

While Ogbah put up a solid defensive performance from an individual standpoint versus Patrick Mahomes and company, the Dolphins had no answer for Kansas City’s offense from a collective standpoint.

The Chiefs scored 26 points and racked up 409 total yards of offense against the Dolphins. Mahomes totaled 262 passing yards and one passing touchdown, while running back Isiah Pacheco ended up with 89 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on 24 carries.

But perhaps Miami’s defense will take a step forward in the upcoming 2024 campaign under new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. Weaver spent the last three seasons on the staff of the Baltimore Ravens before joining Miami’s staff earlier in 2024.

It’s worth noting that Weaver helped the Ravens be one of the best defensive teams in the league during the 2023 regular season, as Baltimore allowed the fewest total points of any NFL squad during its 17-game slate with 280, leveling out to an average of just 16.5 points per game.
