Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill teases idea of picking up new sport

Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill — a gifted athlete who reached a speed of over 22 miles per hour in a game against the Denver Broncos last season — recently expressed interest in playing another sport outside of football: netball.

The objective of netball is similar to that of basketball in the sense that players try to put a ball through a goal that is 10 feet from the ground.

But it’s arguable as to whether Hill should try to pick up a new sport after he enjoyed a historically successful 2023 regular season with the Dolphins franchise.

Hill appeared in all but one of the Dolphins’ 17 regular-season games and tallied league-highs in several categories such as receiving yards (1,799), receiving touchdowns (13) and receiving yards per contest (112.4).

The 30-year-old’s 1,799 receiving yards last season marked the most from any player in a single season in the history of the franchise. Hill broke his own record that he established in the 2022 season, his first season with the Dolphins, when he totaled 1,710 receiving yards in 17 games (all starts) in the regular season.

Hill also accumulated the seventh-most receiving yards of any NFL player ever in a single regular season in the 2023 campaign and was fewer than 200 yards away from breaking the all-time receiving yards record held by former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who ended up with 1,964 during the 2012 campaign.

Hill has enjoyed an impressive amount of individual success during his stint with the Dolphins thus far, but his skill set has yet to translate into significant collective success for Miami. The Dolphins have yet to win a playoff game with Hill on the roster despite winning nine games during the 2022 regular season and 11 during the 2023 regular season.

While fans of the Dolphins might not want Hill to pursue another sport so that he can fully focus on football, it’s fun to picture him playing netball competitively, considering the athlete that he is.
