NFL coach sees Tua Tagovailoa’s brother as mini version of Miami Dolphins QB

One unnamed NFL coach who works for a team in the AFC said that Miami Dolphins signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa’s brother Taulia is a miniature version of the one-time Pro Bowler.

“There’s ability there,” an AFC coordinator told NFL.com. “You have a miniature version of his brother. You could take a flier on him at the end if you don’t want to bid on him in free agency. There’s potentially something to develop.”

Taulia Tagovailoa spent his last four seasons of college football playing for the University of Maryland after spending one season at the University of Alabama.

In his fifth and final season competing at the collegiate level, Taulia Tagovailoa totaled 3,377 passing yards and 25 passing touchdowns compared to 11 interceptions in 12 total appearances with the Terrapins.

His 2023 season marked the third season in a row where he racked up at least 3,000 passing yards with the University of Maryland.

Taulia Tagovailoa also quietly contributed from a rushing standpoint in his last season with the Terrapins, considering he finished with five rushing touchdowns.

His older brother in Tua Tagovailoa has staked his claim as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL right now after his statistically impressive 2023 regular season with the Dolphins organization.

Tua Tagovailoa didn’t miss a single regular-season game for the Dolphins and accumulated 29 passing touchdowns and 222 first downs passing in his fourth NFL season. He led the entire NFL in total passing yards (4,624) and averaged 272.0 passing yards per game to boot.

The 26-year-old’s passing chops led the Dolphins to an impressive 11-6 regular-season record. Additionally, his contributions as a passer helped him earn the very first Pro Bowl nod of his NFL career.

According to NFL.com’s recent ranking of the top quarterbacks in the upcoming draft class, Taulia Tagovailoa is projected to get selected late in the 2024 NFL Draft or even go undrafted, so it’s unclear if he will have an opportunity for consistent playing time in the league next season.

But if Taulia Tagovailoa were to follow in his older brother’s footsteps and make an impact in the pros right away, it would make for an exciting storyline. Hopefully Taulia Tagovailoa can carve out a long and productive career in the NFL.
