Report: Miami Dolphins to host potential Terron Armstead successor for visit

The clock is ticking toward the 2024 NFL Draft, and the Miami Dolphins reportedly will be meeting with an offensive lineman they could select with their first-round pick.

“The Dolphins, who are considering taking an offensive lineman with the 21st pick overall draft pick on April 25, are flying in one of the draft’s best pass protectors, Oklahoma’s Tyler Guyton, to team headquarters, according to a league source,” wrote Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

“Guyton will count among the Dolphins 30 permitted pre-draft visits, the source said.”

The University of Oklahoma product is likely to be on the board for the Dolphins when their initial pick comes up at the draft, which begins April 25.

Guyton has been going somewhere in the 20s in some prominent mock drafts, including those of analysts Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com and Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN. In a recent final ranking by ESPN’s Matt Miller of the top 474 prospects, Guyton came in at No. 23.

Listed at 6-foot-8 and 322 pounds, Guyton started nine games at right tackle for Oklahoma this past season. He did miss some time due to injury and started just 15 games in his college career, which included time at Texas Christian University as well.

After losing offensive lineman Robert Hunt as a free agent this offseason, Miami has been linked to offensive linemen during the pre-draft process, with scouts around the league reportedly believing that is what they will prioritize in the first round. The Dolphins also have the No. 55 overall selection in the second round but do not currently hold another pick until the fifth round.

Dolphins tackle Terron Armstead is returning to play his 12th NFL season after seemingly pondering retirement, but he has been beset by injuries throughout his career, which could have the team targeting a potential replacement.

They have also been linked to University of Louisville lineman Bryan Hudson and University of Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson. They also could satisfy their offensive line needs with remaining unsigned free agents and might choose to re-sign Connor Williams, who is recovering from a knee injury suffered last season.

So far this offseason, the Dolphins have added offensive lineman Aaron Brewer and retained Robert Jones and Isaiah Wynn.

Protecting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa remains a high priority as the Dolphins face a decision on what to do about a long-term contract for him. He was sacked a career-high 29 times last season but also was able to play in a career-high 17 games after dealing with significant injuries earlier in his four-year career.
