Mike McDaniel reveals Miami Dolphins made offer to Odell Beckham Jr. in packed update

The Miami Dolphins have been heavily linked to veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. lately, and Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is now confirming that the team extended an offer to the 31-year-old.

Miami reportedly had a positive meeting with Beckham a few days ago.

“Things went great with him,” McDaniel said. “We did make him an offer and business takes time, especially with players such as Odell, who’s had a phenomenal career, still has really good football in front of him and has options. So, I think those conversations will be ongoing. We’ll see where they go.”

McDaniel continued.

“I don’t live in the world of crystal balling and I do stay in my lane as a coach,” he said. “I’m definitely ready to coach him if we can come to an agreement and I think both sides are trying to work towards that. We’ll see what happens.”

The Dolphins reportedly don’t want to overspend on Beckham, so the financial element of a potential deal between the two sides will be worth monitoring. It may take a bit for an agreement to come together, if one happens at all.

Beckham would slide in as a nice third option for the Dolphins behind star wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The veteran’s best days may be behind him, but he remains productive enough to be a relevant receiving threat.

In the 2023 regular season, he caught 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns across 14 appearances and six starts. He helped the Baltimore Ravens earn the No. 1 seed in the AFC, but they fell in the conference title game to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Earlier in his career, Beckham had five seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards. His resume also includes three Pro Bowl nods, a Super Bowl ring and maybe the greatest catch of all time.

Beckham’s playoff experience would be a nice addition for a Dolphins team that is trying to get over the hump in the postseason. Although Miami has earned two straight playoff bids, the team has gone 0-2 in those two trips. Beckham has appeared in seven playoff games in his career and won his ring with the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 season.

The Dolphins have done their best to have a productive offseason despite entering it with salary cap concerns, and it appears they aren’t necessarily done yet. Beckham’s name will be worth keeping an eye on until he makes a decision on where to spend the 2024 season.
