Report: Miami Dolphins interested in Odell Beckham Jr.

The Miami Dolphins reportedly are interested in veteran receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who was released this offseason by the Baltimore Ravens after one season with the team.

A former first-round pick, Beckham was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in the 2014 season and at one time, was one of the best receivers in the NFL.

Injuries have slowed the three-time Pro Bowler’s career, as he missed the entire 2022 season after suffering a torn ACL in the Super Bowl while with the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 season.

It was the second time in Beckham’s career that he tore his ACL, but he did help the Rams win the Super Bowl that season, catching two passes for 52 yards and a touchdown.

The Dolphins could use another explosive receiver in their offense alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and it’s possible that they could get Beckham at a reasonable price since he was already let go by another contender this offseason.

Baltimore made the AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 season, but the team came up short, losing 17-10. Beckham made three receptions in that game, but he had a small role in the playoffs as a whole, making just four catches on seven targets in the team’s two games (against Houston and Kansas City).

The Dolphins were also knocked out of the playoffs by the Chiefs, losing in the first round of the playoffs in frigid temperatures in Kansas City. Miami mustered just seven points in that game, so it’s possible the team is looking for ways to spark the offense – and give Tua Tagovailoa more weapons – this offseason.

In the 2023 season for Baltimore, Beckham appeared in 14 regular season games and made six starts. He was targeted 64 times, making 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns.

Even though it wasn’t one of Beckham’s best seasons, he still had more receiving yards than he did in the 2021 season when he played in 14 games for the Cleveland Browns and Rams. He finished that campaign with 44 receptions for 537 yards.

Beckham’s previous success in his career still likely makes him a threat to opposing defenses, which could help Miami take some attention off of Hill and Waddle in the passing game.

Miami is looking to improve upon a roster that just missed winning the AFC East last season. The Dolphins have made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, but they have failed to win a game. Maybe, the team will view Beckham as a player that can help it get over the hump in the 2024 season.
