Report: Miami Dolphins linked to former Philadelphia Eagles WR

The Miami Dolphins reportedly have been linked to former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Quez Watkins.

A sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Watkins spent the past four seasons in Philly, making 98 receptions for 1,249 yards and six touchdowns in 49 games (25 starts). Last season, Watkins appeared in nine games for the Eagles and made 15 catches for 142 yards and a score.

His best season came in the 2021 campaign when he posted career-highs in receptions (43), receiving yards (647) and yards per game (38.1).

Watkins could be an interesting fit in the Dolphins’ wide receiver room, as he’s another speedy player that can stretch the field.

The Dolphins already have two star receivers in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but it’s possible that the organization is looking for players who are similar to the two stars, as it could make a transition to replace either of them (if they deal with injury troubles) easier for the offense.

Watkins is more than just a receiver, as he played a key role on special teams with the Eagles as well.

Over his time with Philly, Watkins made 14 kick returns for 200 yards (average of 14.3 yards per return). However, he did not return any punts for the Eagles.

While he’s not one of the biggest names out there in free agency, Watkins could be a solid add for the Dolphins at a cheaper price than players like Odell Beckham Jr. or Michael Thomas.

The Dolphins are hoping to have another season with one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, as it helped them reach the playoffs in the 2023 campaign.

During the 2023 regular season, Miami led the league in total yards and finished second in points scored. Only the Dallas Cowboys scored more points than the Dolphins in the 2023 campaign.

Miami did it with a balanced attack, relying on Tua Tagovailoa to find Hill and Waddle through the air while running backs Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane had some explosive plays on the ground.

Adding a player like Watkins – or another potential big-play receiver – could make the Dolphins just as dangerous in the 2024 season.
