Miami Dolphins fans might be feeling a bit of deja vu, as a Dolphins player was recently accused of giving his partner a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

A lawsuit from late 2023, filed in a Florida court, stated that an unnamed Dolphins player failed to warn his then-girlfriend that he had genital herpes and proceeded to infect her with the virus.

Alex DeLuca of the Miami New Times offered some information regarding the situation.

“The plaintiff claimed that several months after she noticed lesions on her partner, the couple underwent STI testing,” DeLuca wrote. “According to the complaint, both subsequently tested positive for oral and genital herpes, a common, incurable virus that causes painful blisters.

“The lawsuit claimed the player ‘owed a duty’ to his ex to either refrain from sex or warn her that he was infected.”

According to the player’s and plaintiff’s attorneys, the case is no longer being actively litigated. It’s unclear whether or not there was a settlement.

The online version of the complaint reportedly is redacted with black boxes covering the text, but the document (six pages long) is “readily viewable by simply copying and pasting its contents.” The newspaper didn’t publish the name of the Dolphins player or the court venue out of “respect for privacy.”

Plenty of Dolphins fans will surely think back to 2022, when it was reported that Dolphins star defensive back Xavien Howard was being sued by a woman who alleged he gave her genital herpes. Court filings later claimed that the four-time Pro Bowler had been stalked, threatened and had had his house trespassed by his STD accuser.

The former second-round pick, who has spent his entire professional career with the Dolphins, is no stranger to off-field drama, as he was also sued for assault and battery by the mother of his children in 2022.

On top of that, the 30-year-old — who is not set to be a free agent until the 2027 offseason, was accused in August 2023 of making secret sex videos and sharing them. His lawyer said there was no merit to that lawsuit.

At this point, one can only wonder which Dolphins player DeLuca wrote about. Perhaps his name will never be made known to the public.

Dolphins fans are likely more focused on what the team will do in the 2024 season. Expectations were high this past season, and although Miami went 11-6 in the regular season and made the playoffs again, the campaign ended with some disappointment.

Miami was on the cusp of winning the AFC East and even had a shot at the conference’s No. 1 seed, but faltered late and had to travel to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs. The Chiefs, who went on to win the Super Bowl, beat Miami 26-7.

There are tons of new faces on the coaching staff, and those newcomers will be looking to help Mike McDaniel win the first playoff game of his head coaching career in the 2024 season.
