DeShawn Shead’s hyped reaction to joining Miami Dolphins from Seattle Seahawks

Former NFL defensive back and Seattle Seahawks assistant cornerbacks coach DeShawn Shead shared a hyped reaction to joining the Miami Dolphins’ coaching staff.

Shead, who played for six seasons in the NFL for the Seahawks and Detroit Lions, had been a part of Pete Carroll’s coaching staff in Seattle. The 34-year-old also played for Carroll and won a Super Bowl with him and the Seahawks.

He shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, thanking Seattle for not only giving him his start as a player, but also as a coach. It’s clear that the franchise means a lot to him.

The Dolphins have experienced some changes to their staff this offseason since hiring Anthony Weaver as their defensive coordinator. Weaver replaced Vic Fangio, who mutually agreed to part ways with the Dolphins after the 2023 season and took the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive coordinator position.

One of the key moves the Dolphins recently made was adding former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry to be their linebackers coach/run game coordinator.

The team also added former Tennessee Titans coach Ryan Crow to coach their outside linebackers. He’s viewed in NFL circles as a coach that has “defensive coordinator potential.”

As for Shead, it seems likely that he will work with the defensive backs in some capacity in Miami since that’s the position he played during his NFL career.

Since the end of the Dolphins’ season, the team has let go of secondary coach Renaldo Hill and cornerback coach Sam Madison from Mike McDaniel’s staff. In addition to that, safeties coach Joe Kasper joined Fangio’s staff in Philadelphia. Perhaps Shead will fill one of those spots.

Shead had been a part of the Seattle coaching staff since the 2021 season, and he brings a unique perspective to Miami being a former NFL player as well.

During his playing career, Shead started 23 of the 66 games that he appeared in for the Seahawks and Lions. He tallied two career interceptions, four forced fumbles, one sack and 171 combined tackles. Shead’s final season in the NFL came in the 2018 campaign.

The Dolphins are certainly hoping Shead and the other defensive coaching additions can help improve the team in the 2024 season.
