Johnny Manziel responds to far-fetched theory linking him to Miami Dolphins

After seeing a photo of former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel sporting a Miami Dolphins hat, one fan speculated about a possible comeback for the former first-round pick, but Manziel was quick to shut the idea down.

He explained that he simply loves Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and head coach Mike McDaniel, thus the hat.

Manziel made a name for himself at Texas A&M University by putting together a phenomenal collegiate career. He took home the Heisman in the 2012 season and helped the Aggies win multiple bowl games.

His electrifying time with Texas A&M led to him being selected with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, where he landed with the Cleveland Browns.

Unfortunately, Manziel’s NFL career never took off, with the quarterback running into conduct issues while underwhelming in his limited opportunities on the field.

Across two seasons with the Browns, Manziel started eight games and appeared in 14 overall. He completed 57.0 percent of his passes for seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Even if Manziel were interested in another NFL opportunity, the Dolphins likely wouldn’t come calling, as the organization seems ready to move forward with Tagovailoa leading the way at the position.

Tagovailoa led the NFL in passing yards in the 2023 regular season, and while he wasn’t always perfect (particularly in big games), he seemingly showed enough to earn at least another season running the show in Miami.

The Dolphins have made the playoffs in two consecutive seasons, but they’re still searching for their first postseason victory in over two decades. The franchise is undoubtedly anxious to put that drought to rest, and the 2024 season will carry a lot of pressure and expectations for Tagovailoa’s squad.

In the meantime, the Dolphins have a big offseason ahead of them and some key decisions to make. Miami’s front office is looking to pull the right strings in order to get the team a little bit closer to Super Bowl contention.

Manziel likely won’t be part of Miami’s offseason plans, but it’s a safe bet that he’ll be keeping an eye on the way things unfold.
