Rumors of Tua Tagovailoa’s brother possibly landing in Miami will intensify after his latest move

The brother of Tua Tagovailoa reportedly has entered the college football transfer portal and could wind up very close to the Miami Dolphins star quarterback.

Taulia Tagovailoa is leaving the University of Maryland and may be able to search for another school — possibly the University of Miami — to play what would be his sixth season of college football.

Tua Tagovailoa’s younger brother played four seasons for the Terrapins, setting the Big Ten record for career passing yards and Maryland record for touchdown passes. He started his collegiate career in 2019 at the University of Alabama, where Tua Tagovailoa also played before being selected by the Dolphins with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Based on already participating in five college football seasons, Taulia Tagovailoa reportedly would need a waiver to be granted another year of eligibility. The Athletic named the University of Miami as a possible contender for his services if allowed. Last month, it was reported that the Tagovailoa family has expressed a desire to have the 23-year-old wind up in Miami to be in the same city as his 25-year-old brother.

In the meantime, Tua Tagovailoa has more pressing concerns with the Dolphins preparing for a game with the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night that will decide the AFC East champion and No. 2 seed in the playoffs. Miami is coming off a 56-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday that helped create the winner-take-all scenario for the division crown this week.

Tua Tagovailoa will be playing his 17th game of the season to mark the first time he has been able to appear in every game in his four NFL campaigns. He appeared in 13 games each of the prior two seasons and was unable to participate in the Dolphins’ playoff loss to the Bills last January while in concussion protocol.

He leads the league with 4,451 passing yards this season and could become the first Dolphins quarterback to top the NFL in that category since Dan Marino did so in the 1992 campaign.

But more importantly, the Dolphins will be trying to wrap up a division title for the first time since the 2008 season and get their first playoff victory since the 2000 campaign.
