Report: No deal between Ndamukong Suh and Miami Dolphins is imminent

The Miami Dolphins reportedly hosted veteran defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh for a free agent visit, though nothing is imminent.

Suh last played in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2022 season. A five-time Pro Bowler, former Defensive Rookie of the Year and Super Bowl champion, Suh has quite the resume that could help a Dolphins team that is looking to make a playoff run this season.

It’s possible that Suh could give the Dolphins some depth on the interior of their defensive line, especially since the team has three big games to end the season against the Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills.

Suh played with Miami for three seasons, earning a Pro Bowl berth in the 2016 season. During his time in Miami, Suh appeared in 48 of 48 possible regular season games, picking up 181 combined tackles, 15.5 sacks, 37 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

While Suh is past his prime from when he was one of the best interior defensive lineman in the NFL, he still contributed for the Eagles last season when they made the Super Bowl.

The 36-year-old appeared in eight games for Philly in the regular season, racking up 10 combined tackles and a sack despite not recording a single start. He also appeared in three of the team’s playoff games.

That’s where Suh could come in handy for Miami, as the team doesn’t have a ton of playoff experience up and down the roster. Suh played in a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he has 15 playoff games (12 starts) under his belt in his NFL career.

In the 2020 season, when Tampa Bay won the Super Bowl, Suh appeared in four playoff games and recorded 1.5 sacks. He has seven total sacks in the playoffs.

The Dolphins currently hold the No. 2 seed in the AFC, but they could find themselves in some murky water if they don’t finish out the season strong. Since Miami plays three playoff-caliber teams, including the No. 1 seed in the AFC in Baltimore, it could see its record drop off if it doesn’t play well.

The flip side is that Miami could end up winning all three games to solidify itself as one of the best teams in the NFL. It’s possible Suh could help the team accomplish that goal this season.
