Report: Tennessee Titans star could be in danger of missing Week 14 game vs. Miami Dolphins

The Tennessee Titans could be without a major contributor for their Week 14 matchup with the Miami Dolphins.

Titans star running back Derrick Henry left Tennessee’s 31-28 overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday to be checked for a concussion, and he’s now in concussion protocol. As a result, Henry’s status for the game against Miami is in question.

Once in concussion protocol, players have to go through several steps before they can be cleared to return to action. There is no set length of time for a player to be in the protocol in the NFL, and as a result, the length can vary depending on the situation.

In Henry’s case, the Titans will just have to wait to see how he responds over the course of the week before making a determination on his status for the game against Miami. Obviously, they would like to have him available.

Henry is an enormous part of Tennessee’s offensive attack. He has led the NFL in rushing yards on two previous occasions (the 2019 and 2020 seasons), and he’s second this season behind Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers. On 197 carries so far this season, Henry has amassed 841 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. Production like that is difficult to replace.

The Dolphins will enter the game against the Titans riding a three-game winning streak and sitting atop the AFC East with an impressive 9-3 record. They lead the NFL in yards per game and passing yards per game, and they appear to be well on their way to a postseason appearance. The Titans, on the other hand, are coming off that overtime loss to the Colts and sit at the bottom of the AFC South with a record of 4-8.

The game between the Dolphins and Titans will take place at Hard Rock Stadium, and that should work in the Dolphins’ favor, as they are a perfect 5-0 at home this season. They’re one of just two teams without a home loss along with the Dallas Cowboys. Meanwhile, the Titans have yet to win a road game this season (0-6). The Carolina Panthers are the only other team in the NFL that hasn’t won a road game.
