Former Miami Dolphins QB says he’d be surprised to see them in Super Bowl

The Miami Dolphins own the best record in the AFC East right now at 7-3, are fresh off a win against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday and have two of the most dominant offensive players in the NFL this season in Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa.

Still, former Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said that he would be surprised to see the team in the Super Bowl.

“I would be surprised to see Miami in the Super Bowl,” Fitzpatrick said on Monday. “The AFC is such a gauntlet. There are so many teams. With Joe Burrow out [because of a wrist injury], that changes the landscape a little bit. Between Kansas City and Baltimore, I don’t see them in the top two favorites. So I would be surprised if the Dolphins make it to the Feb. 12 Super Bowl in Las Vegas.”

Granted, the Dolphins have struggled to beat the elite teams in the NFL so far this season. Two of Miami’s three losses have come against Super Bowl contenders in the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.

First, the Dolphins lost to the Eagles by 14 points back on Oct. 22. More recently, they lost to the Chiefs by seven points on Nov. 5.

Miami also lost to the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 1, but the Bills are only 6-5 on the season.

Despite the Dolphins’ frustrating losses against the Eagles and Chiefs, they’ve been playing great football for the lion’s share of the regular season, and the performances of Hill and Tagovailoa are big reasons why.

In 10 appearances with the Dolphins so far, Hill has totaled nine receiving touchdowns, 56 first downs receiving and 1,222 receiving yards. Additionally, he is averaging a league-high 122.2 receiving yards per game.

Tagovailoa, meanwhile, has thrown for 2,934 yards, 21 touchdowns and 142 first downs this season.

It’s understandable as to why Fitzpatrick would be surprised to see the Dolphins make the Super Bowl, as both the Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens are AFC teams with better records than Miami.

However, the Dolphins also have the offensive firepower to surprise some people and make a deep playoff run.
