Tua Tagovailoa on possibly winning NFL MVP: ‘I just want to help our team win the Super Bowl’

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa revealed that he’s just focused on winning the team a Super Bowl when asked if winning MVP honors is something he’s thought about.

Tagovailoa has put together quite the campaign in the 2023 NFL season, throwing for 2,609 yards, 19 touchdowns (which leads the league) and just seven interceptions in nine games. The former first-round pick is completing 69.5 percent of his passes (a career-high mark) and averaging 8.5 yards gained per pass attempt.

Those impressive numbers have put Tagovailoa in the conversation for the league’s MVP award, especially since Miami is leading the AFC East entering Week 11.

However, Tagovailoa is clearly more focused on the team’s success rather than his individual numbers.

Since the Dolphins hired head coach Mike McDaniel, Tagovailoa has really thrived in the team’s offense.

Last season, the former University of Alabama quarterback threw for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 13 games during the regular season. He also led the NFL in yards gained per pass attempt and yards gained per pass completion.

It’s great to see Tagovailoa pick up right where he left off so far this season, especially since his 2022 campaign was cut short due to a concussion.

In the 2023 season, Tagovailoa has been able to stay healthy, and that’s a big reason why Miami has been so successful through its first nine games.

The Dolphins lead the Buffalo Bills (5-5) in the AFC East division, but the team would love to make a push for the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC.

That’s going to be tough since the Dolphins lost to the Kansas City Chiefs (7-2) in Week 9, but the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars lost in Week 10 while Miami was on a bye.

That helps the team a little in its quest for the top spot in the AFC, but Tagovailoa will need to keep playing at a high level for the team to get there. Miami is 0-3 against teams that are .500 or better this season (Bills, Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles), and the team will get another tough test in Week 11.

The Dolphins host the Las Vegas Raiders, who have won two straight games under interim head coach Antonio Pierce to move to 5-5.

While Tagovailoa may not be focused on the MVP award, if he can lead the team into a position where it can win a Super Bowl, he most certainly will be in the conversation for it.
