The Miami Dolphins will face off against arguably their toughest opponent of the 2023 regular season so far in the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Miami cornerbacks Xavien Howard and Kader Kohou offered positive updates on their statuses ahead of the anticipated Week 7 showdown.

Kohou joined the Dolphins after going undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft and has spent both of his two seasons in the pros with the franchise. He totaled 72 combined tackles, 63 solo tackles and five tackles for loss in 15 games played with Miami during the 2022 regular season, his rookie season. Also, the 5-foot-10 cornerback had one interception, which came against the Green Bay Packers.

Howard, meanwhile, has been a member of the Dolphins for quite some time now. He is in his eighth season with the Dolphins, who drafted him with the No. 38 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. The cornerback racked up one interception, 45 combined tackles, 35 solo tackles and 12 passes defended across 15 appearances with the Dolphins a season ago.

While Howard was an important part of Miami’s defense during the 2022 regular season, he is on pace to improve upon his numbers from last season in the 2023 regular season. Through the Dolphins’ first six games, the 30-year-old has accumulated 27 combined tackles, 23 solo tackles, one quarterback hit and one interception.

In his stint with the Dolphins, Howard has earned four Pro Bowl appearances and received the third-most votes in the NFL AP Defensive Player of the Year voting during the 2020 season, when he led the league in both interceptions (10) and passes defended (20). He also was awarded the only first-team All-Pro nod of his pro career for his contributions on the defensive side of the ball that season.

Howard saying that he plans to play against the Eagles on the road on Sunday is great news for Dolphins fans, seeing as how he’s one of the better cornerbacks on the team right now. And Kohou’s comments indicate that there’s a solid chance that the second-year pro will suit up for the Dolphins this weekend too.
