Report: Dolphins add former Rams champion in wake of crushing De’Von Achane news

A recent report suggests that Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane is expected to miss multiple weeks after suffering a knee injury against the New York Giants on Sunday.

Achane ran for a whopping 151 yards and one touchdown in Miami’s 31-16 victory, which improved the team’s record to 4-1 on the season.

In the wake of the crushing Achane news, the Dolphins have signed running back Jake Funk to their practice squad.

Funk was selected with the No. 233 overall pick by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 NFL Draft after spending five seasons playing college football at the University of Maryland. Arguably his best season with the Terrapins came during his fifth and final season with the team, the 2020 season. Funk racked up 516 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in four games played with the Terrapins that season.

Funk has played for the Indianapolis Colts and Rams during his three seasons in the NFL. He played in six games with the Colts and Rams in the 2022 regular season (zero starts).

The 25-year-old running back has logged very little regular-season playing time during his NFL career so far, as he has just four total rushing attempts in his three seasons in the pros.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins selected Achane with the No. 84 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft following his stint playing college football at Texas A&M University.

Achane has been one of the better running backs in the NFL thus far during the 2023 regular season. He has run for 460 yards and five touchdowns in four games played with the Dolphins. Achane is also leading the league in yards per carry and rushing yards per game, which is an incredible accomplishment, especially for a 21-year-old rookie.

Hopefully, Achane won’t miss more than a couple of weeks and will be back on the field for the Dolphins later this month. But until Achane makes his return, running back Raheem Mostert will have to pick up the slack in place of the injured rookie.

Mostert and the Dolphins will take on the winless Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
