Report: Miami Dolphins giving new opportunity to familiar face amid wide receiver injuries

Miami Dolphins wide receivers Erik Ezukanma and River Cracraft will be sidelined indefinitely due to injuries, so the Dolphins have decided to give a new opportunity to a familiar face. Miami has added wide receiver Freddie Swain to its practice squad.

Swain was selected with the No. 214 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft after spending four seasons playing college football at the University of Florida. His first three seasons as a member of the Gators were unspectacular, as he never logged more than 265 receiving yards in a season with the school before his senior year.

But during his senior season, the 2019 campaign, Swain was able to put himself on the map. He racked up 517 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns in 12 games played with the Gators as a senior.

Swain’s contributions as a senior translated into lots of collective success for the 2019 iteration of the Gators. They finished the season with an impressive 11-2 record and beat the University of Virginia in the Orange Bowl by a final score of 36-28. Swain finished with 21 receiving yards on three receptions in the victory.

The 25-year-old wide receiver has played for three teams — the Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos and Dolphins — across his time in the NFL. He totaled 74 receiving yards in four games played between the Broncos and Dolphins during the 2022 regular season (one start). His longest reception a season ago went for a whopping 52 yards.

Swain’s best season in the NFL to this point came during the 2021 campaign when he was a member of the Seahawks. He racked up 343 receiving yards, four receiving touchdowns and averaged 13.7 yards per reception in 17 games with the Seahawks during the regular season (eight starts).

Here’s to hoping that Swain will be able to make the most of the opportunity that the Dolphins have granted him due to Ezukanma and Cracraft dealing with cases of the injury bug.

The Dolphins will play the New York Giants at home this coming Sunday in hopes of improving their record to 4-1 on the season.
