Mike McDaniel provides devastating update on Miami Dolphins tackle Terron Armstead

Terron Armstead will be out for weeks but the tackle is expected to return for the Miami Dolphins sometime this season, according to head coach Mike McDaniel.

Arguably the Dolphins’ best offensive lineman when healthy, Armstead injured his knee and left in the second quarter of a 48-20 loss at the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. During the week leading up to the contest, he was limited in practice with back, ankle and knee injuries and was questionable.

It is the latest setback for the 32-year-old, who made his season debut in Week 3 after he was injured in a joint practice during training camp. Last season, he missed four games while also playing through a foot injury that drew a recommendation for surgery that would have ended his season. He also appeared on the injury report listed with toe and pectoral injuries.

Armstead suffered multiple injuries with the New Orleans Saints in 2021 and missed nine games. The four-time Pro Bowl selection has never played more than 15 games in a season and will fall short of that number again this season.

It was an injury added to the insult of a blowout loss to an AFC East rival that ended a three-game winning streak to start the season. The Dolphins offense was the talk of the NFL after scoring 70 points in a Week 3 win against the Denver Broncos, and though they did manage to gain 393 total yards on Sunday, that was well short of the 550.3 yards per game they were averaging entering this week.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was sacked four times after being sacked just once in the first three games. Armstead has been considered a key component of the offensive line in an attempt to help the 25-year-old avoid the injuries that derailed his campaign last season.

Miami pass rusher Jaelan Phillips did not play because of an oblique injury, and it remains unknown when he will be able to return.

Though they will not have Armstead, the Dolphins will have a chance to rebound at home against the New York Giants in Week 5.
