Mike McDaniel’s latest comments on De’Von Achane will delight NFL fantasy owners

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel had some positive comments about rookie running back De’Von Achane and his performance in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills.

Despite Miami getting blown out 48-20, Achane was effective for the Dolphins, posting his second straight game with over 100 rushing yards. That led to McDaniel admitting that the rookie will continue to have a role in the backfield going forward.

Achane broke off a long run of 55 yards on Sunday on his way to an eight-carry, 101-yard performance. He also scored two touchdowns in the loss.

A third-round pick out of Texas A&M University, Achane was also involved in the passing game, reeling in three of his five targets for 19 additional yards.

De’Von Achane / Raheem Mostert Fantasy Outlook

This is the second straight week that Achane has put together a big game for the Dolphins, and he thoroughly outplayed veteran Raheem Mostert against Buffalo.

Mostert had just nine rushing yards on seven carries on Sunday. He did add three catches for 36 yards, but the veteran also lost a fumble.

If Achane continues to outplay Mostert, McDaniel may allow the rookie’s role to expand even more.

In Week 3 against the Denver Broncos, Achane really broke out for the Dolphins after seeing limited playing time in Week 2. He carried the ball 18 times for 203 yards and two touchdowns against Denver. He also added two scores through the air, catching four passes for an additional 30 yards.

Achane’s speed has been evident in the past two weeks, and he’s showing the Dolphins that he can be a valued part of their attack on offense.

This is nothing new for Achane, as he thrived at Texas A&M in college. Achane averaged 6.4 yards per carry across three seasons for the Aggies. He also put together a 1,102 rushing yard season in the 2022 campaign while scoring eight rushing touchdowns.

Those who have Achane on their roster in fantasy leagues should be excited about his usage the last two weeks, especially since he’s turned the extra touches into a ton of production.

The Dolphins and Achane will look to get back in the win column in Week 5 against the New York Giants on Sunday, Oct. 8.
