Miami Dolphins running back Salvon Ahmed suffered a groin injury in the team’s Week 2 game against the New England Patriots on Sunday. He ran for 13 yards in a game the Dolphins went on to win by a final score of 24-17 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

A recent encouraging injury update indicates that Ahmed is hopeful to return to the field as early as Week 4 when the Dolphins will play the Buffalo Bills on the road.

“In other running back news, Miami’s Salvon Ahmed (groin) is hopeful to return as early as Week 4,” Jeremy Fowler wrote. “It shouldn’t be a long absence for the backup.”

Ahmed went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft following a three-season stint playing college football at the University of Washington. But his freshman season with the team, the 2017 season, was forgettable. Ahmed ran for just 388 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games played with the Huskies.

During his final two seasons with the Huskies, though, Ahmed was featured more. He racked up 600-plus rushing yards and seven-plus rushing touchdowns in each of his final two seasons of college football.

His best season of college football came during his junior season, the 2019 season. The 5-foot-11 running back totaled 1,020 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 12 appearances with the Huskies. He also averaged an impressive 5.4 yards per carry.

Ahmed’s contributions translated into modest success for the 2019 iteration of the Huskies. They finished the season with an 8-5 record and beat Boise State University in the Las Vegas Bowl by a final score of 38-7. Ahmed ran for 20 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.

The 24-year-old has played four seasons in the NFL, all as a member of the Dolphins franchise. He finished with 64 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown in 12 appearances with the Dolphins during the 2022 regular season (zero starts).

Additionally, his longest rushing attempt a season ago was for 11 yards.

Considering Week 4 seems to be the earliest that Ahmed could return, fans shouldn’t expect the running back to be ready to play by then. But hopefully he will be back on the field for the Dolphins no later than the latter part of October.
