The Miami Dolphins have decided to make a trade with the start of the 2023 NFL regular season less than two weeks away. They have traded cornerback Noah Igbinoghene to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for cornerback Kelvin Joseph.
Igbinoghene, 23, was selected with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft after a successful three-season stint at Auburn University. Interestingly, he began his college career as a wide receiver but eventually became a defensive back with the team. He finished with 28-plus solo tackles in each of his last two seasons as a Tiger.
He has played three seasons in the NFL, all as a member of the Dolphins franchise.
The former Auburn star finished with one interception and eight solo tackles in nine games with the Dolphins during the 2022 regular season (two starts).
Arguably Igbinoghene’s best season in the NFL to this point was his rookie season, the 2020 season. He recovered two fumbles and racked up a career-high 11 solo tackles across 16 games during the regular season (two starts).
Meanwhile, Joseph, 22, was selected with the No. 44 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after playing two seasons of college football, one with Louisiana State University and the other with the University of Kentucky.
Joseph has played two seasons in the NFL, both with the Cowboys franchise. He finished with one forced fumble and 17 solo tackles in 16 games played during the 2022 regular season for a Cowboys team that ended up with a fantastic 12-5 record.
Only time will tell if trading the former first-round pick Igbinoghene for Joseph will pay off for the Dolphins during the 2023 regular season. But the move projects to age well for Miami, considering Joseph is two inches taller than Igbinoghene and one year younger.
The Cowboys and Dolphins will play each other in Miami later on in the 2023 regular season. Miami is set to begin the 2023 regular season on Sept. 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers on the road.
