Miami Dolphins release encouraging update on Daewood Davis after scary injury vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Miami Dolphins’ preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday took a scary turn after Daewood Davis sustained an injury that left him motionless on the field.

The rookie wide receiver took a hit from a Jaguars linebacker and stumbled onto the ground on his chest. After being attended to by medical personnel, Davis had to be carted off the field. The contest was then suspended, with the Dolphins and Jacksonville mutually agreeing to not finish the remaining 8:32 left in the fourth period.

Fans eagerly awaited updates on the 24-year-old’s status and should be relieved after the team announced his release from Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville.

Davis has been trying to prove he deserves a spot on the Dolphins’ roster after going undrafted in the 2023 draft. He played in college for Western Kentucky University, where he totaled 80 receptions for 1,318 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons. He appeared in all three preseason games for Miami.

With the preseason behind them, the Dolphins will turn their attention to preparing for the regular season, which they will open against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 10. Hopefully, the team won’t have to deal with any more injuries.

Saturday wasn’t the first time the squad saw a player get taken off the field in a similar manner this August.

During a joint practice session with the Atlanta Falcons earlier this month, wide receiver Braylon Sanders injured his knee and also had to be carted off the field.

In Miami’s preseason contest against the Houston Texans, rookie running back De’Von Achane suffered a shoulder injury that also required him to ride a cart off the field. Coach Mike McDaniel later offered a fortunate update about Achane.

Miami will likely need as many healthy bodies as possible in order to improve on its results in the 2022 season. The last campaign saw the team make it back to the postseason after a lengthy absence. However, it was eliminated early by the Buffalo Bills. Only time will tell if McDaniel can do better in his second year coaching the Dolphins.
