Report: Mike White still in concussion protocol for Miami Dolphins after entering it vs. Houston Texans

Miami Dolphins quarterback Mike White is in concussion protocol, according to a report.

The 28-year-old entered concussion protocol during Miami’s most recent preseason game, and he’s yet to be cleared.

“Dolphins quarterback Mike White entered concussion protocol during Saturday’s 28-3 victory over Houston and remains there today, according to a source, and his condition could put Miami in a difficult situation for Saturday’s preseason finale at Jacksonville,” wrote Chris Perkins of the Sun Sentinel.

Dolphins quarterbacks can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to concussion concerns. As fans know all too well, starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa dealt with multiple concussions last season, significantly altering his 2022 campaign and raising concerns about his future.

Fortunately, the 25-year-old is a full go as the 2023 season approaches, but it’s White who’s now dealing with concussion concerns. The former fifth-round pick is entering his first season with the Dolphins after signing with the squad several months ago.

As the Dolphins get ready for their final preseason game, their quarterback situation is going to be something to monitor. White’s status may open the door for fellow reserve Skylar Thompson to get more playing time. Aside from White, Tagovailoa and Thompson are the only quarterbacks currently on the roster.

The Dolphins have been hit pretty hard by the injury bug this summer, with players like Jalen Ramsey and Terron Armstead (among others) dealing with injuries of their own. After injuries played a big part in Miami’s first-round exit from the playoffs last season, the team is certainly hoping that its luck will change this time around.

The hope is certainly that White isn’t dealing with any significant symptoms. Concussion protocol is never a good place to be, and he must be frustrated with the timing of the setback.

White, if healthy, could find himself involved in some key moments this season if Tagovailoa misses any time. Across eight games at the NFL level, the Dolphins newcomer has completed 62.2 percent of his passes for 2,145 yards, eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Miami will open its 2023 campaign on Sept. 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers. With any luck, the Dolphins will be as healthy as possible when that game arrives.

This season, the organization is trying to earn back-to-back playoff bids for the first time since the early 2000s and grab its first playoff win since the 2000 season.
