Report: Emerging feeling is that Jevon Holland will do ‘serious damage’ under Vic Fangio

There is an emerging feeling that Miami Dolphins safety Jevon Holland will do some “serious damage” under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in the 2023 season, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“The feeling is emerging that safety Jevon Holland will do serious damage in Fangio’s scheme, which will allow him to make plays near the line of scrimmage and as a post safety,” Fowler wrote. “Holland will be used as a versatile chess piece.”

This is great news for Dolphins fans, as Holland is one of the rising stars on the Miami defense. Holland has started 30 of the 33 games that he’s played in for the Dolphins over the last two seasons

Last season, Holland played in all 17 games for the Dolphins and recorded a career-high 96 combined tackles. It’s impressive that he put up such great numbers since the Dolphins lost their other starting safety – Brandon Jones – to a torn ACL early in the season. That put a lot of pressure on Holland to produce.

Holland answered the bell, as he had 1.5 sacks in the 2022 season. He’s now amassed a total of four sacks in his first two seasons.

As a rookie, Holland recovered three fumbles, and he forced another last season.

The former second-round pick is also solid in coverage, recording 17 passes defended and four interceptions over the first two seasons of his NFL career.

Fangio is one of the best defensive minds in the NFL, so he should be able to bring out the best in Holland in the 2023 season.

Fangio joined Miami this offseason, and he has loads of experience as an NFL defensive coordinator. He spent time with the Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers as a defensive coordinator from the 1995 season through the 2018 campaign.

With Jalen Ramsey (knee surgery) likely out for a large chunk of the 2023 season, the Dolphins need playmakers like Holland and Xavien Howard to step up to improve the team’s defense.

Miami ranked 27th in the league in passing yards allowed in the 2022 season, but it’s hard to see that happening again with Fangio at the helm.

Holland will undoubtedly be one of the most exciting players to watch on the Miami defense when the 2023 season kicks off.
