Free agent running back Dalvin Cook recently made some positive comments about the Miami Dolphins and the chances of him landing with the team.
The Dolphins have been linked to Cook, who would immediately upgrade the team’s offense and backfield.
It’s hard to argue with Cook’s comments, as the Dolphins have two of the best downfield weapons in the NFL in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
Hill, who finished with 119 catches for 1,710 yards and seven touchdowns last season, is considered to be one of – if not the fastest – players in the NFL.
Having Hill and Waddle stretch the field with their speed can open up more running lanes for a player like Cook.
The free agent running back also touched on Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who had arguably his best season as a pro in the 2022 campaign. The Dolphins are 21-13 all time when Tagovailoa starts, an impressive record for the former first-round pick.
While multiple concussions limited Tagovailoa’s availability in the 2022 season, the Dolphins are hoping that he can stay healthy to allow the team to make a deep playoff run in the 2023 campaign.
Cook, a four-time Pro Bowler, recorded his fourth straight 1,000-yard rushing campaign for the Minnesota Vikings in the 2022 season, but he did average his fewest yards per carry of his career (4.4). Overall, Cook carried the ball 264 times for 1,173 yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
The Vikings released Cook, partially to save money on his contract, this offseason. Now, the Dolphins are a potential suitor for him and could bolster their backfield that currently features Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., De’Von Achane, Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed.
Cook certainly has more pedigree than any of Miami’s current running backs, and he could benefit from playing with speedsters like Mostert and Achane in the backfield. Achane was drafted by Miami in the 2023 NFL Draft this spring.
There’s no guarantee that Cook ends up signing with the Dolphins, but he clearly has a lot of positive things to say about the organization.
Miami is in a loaded division with Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen, so getting as much help as possible on offense would be great for the team in the 2023 season.
