Latest odds on Dalvin Cook’s next team may indicate good news is ahead for Miami Dolphins

Dalvin Cook is free to sign with any NFL team, and if the betting odds on his future are any indication, there’s a very real chance the running back is headed to the Miami Dolphins.

The odds show it could be an AFC East battle for the 27-year-old, with the New York Jets the second betting choice followed next by the Buffalo Bills. The New England Patriots are just a bit further down the list.

Cook was officially released by the Minnesota Vikings this week after six seasons. The Vikings chose not to be saddled with his big salary when they have Alexander Mattison available to pick up their backfield work.

The Dolphins have been thought of as an ideal landing spot for the Miami native for quite some time. In fact, the Dolphins and Vikings were working on a trade for Cook earlier this year, but it fell apart. Cook, too, reportedly has expressed a desire for a return to Florida, but a hometown discount on a new contract might not be in the cards.

The Dolphins, along with the Jets and Bills, seem to make a lot of sense for Cook on paper. All three teams are serious playoff contenders in win-now mode and could use a solid veteran who is still very productive on the field.

Last season, Cook gained 1,173 yards rushing, added 39 pass receptions and scored 10 total touchdowns. It also was the first time in his NFL career that he played in every game.

The Florida State University product is coming off four straight seasons with over 1,100 yards rushing and five straight with at least 34 catches. He likely would move right to the top of the Dolphins depth chart at running back, ahead of Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr.

If all of them were to enter the upcoming season with Miami, along with 2023 draft pick De’Von Achane, it would allow them to share the load and remain fresh for what the Dolphins are hoping is a deep playoff run.

And if the Dolphins do end up as the team that signs Cook, look for their odds to win the AFC East to shift as well.
