Report: Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers have expressed interest in Hawaii running back

According to a report, the Miami Dolphins have expressed interest in draft prospect Dedrick Parson, although they seem to have competition for the running back from the Los Angeles Chargers.

The University of Hawaii product is looking to take the next step and get a shot in the NFL.

With the Dolphins having just four selections in this year’s draft, their front office has to do its due diligence to make sure it brings the right players aboard. However, many projections have Parson remaining undrafted once the final pick is announced, so Miami may ultimately have a chance to add him without using one of its selections.

Such a case would be a low-risk move for the organization. After all, even if the team were to draft or sign Parson to a contract, it certainly wouldn’t expect him to be a franchise-altering player. Parson would likely find himself playing behind players like Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr. and Myles Gaskin with the Dolphins.

Still, Parson could prove to be a diamond in the rough, especially with the way his collegiate career played out. In his final season, he rushed for 830 yards and 11 touchdowns in 13 games. He also caught 30 passes for 171 yards and one touchdown.

Analysts see Parson as a speedy running back who can evade quick penetration. His running style can also be key for him in eluding defenders who are trying to close out on him. Because of his skill set, the 5-foot-8 Pennsylvania native might be a good fit for Mike McDaniel’s system in Miami.

The fact that Parson spent two years playing for Hawaii may also be worth noting because Tua Tagovailoa hails from the state.

It’s still unclear how Miami will approach the draft. The organization has already done a solid job of adding key personnel in the offseason, but providing Tagovailoa with as many effective weapons as possible will certainly help the squad improve further in the 2023 campaign. So, that might be the Dolphins’ strategy in the upcoming draft.

Time will tell if Parson finds himself wearing a Dolphins uniform in the near future.
