Report: Vontae Davis gets arrested for DUI after allegedly crashing into disabled car on highway

After being out of the limelight for a few years, former Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis recently made headlines after he was reportedly arrested in South Florida for driving under the influence.

The 34-year-old entered the NFL with the Dolphins in 2009 as the No. 25 overall pick of that year’s draft. He declared for that year’s draft after playing three seasons at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Davis had a solid collegiate career, amassing a total of 139 solo tackles and seven interceptions.

Davis immediately found a rotation spot with the Dolphins in his rookie campaign, playing in 16 games and starting nine of them. During that season, he intercepted four passes, returning one for a touchdown, and had 52 combined tackles.

In the following two campaigns in Miami, he retained his starting spot and continued to turn in solid performances for mediocre Dolphins squads. The 2011 season would prove to be his last in Miami, as he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in August of 2012.

It was in Indianapolis where the Washington, D.C. native would play arguably his best years, earning two Pro Bowl selections while donning the Colts uniform. Under coach Chuck Pagano, Davis continued to be a starter and bolstered a defense that helped the team to contend in the playoffs for multiple seasons.

The cornerback arguably had his best season in the 2014 campaign, when he recorded 42 combined tackles and intercepted four passes for 72 yards. He also made his first Pro Bowl appearance that season and helped the Colts reach the AFC Championship Game.

Davis’ six-year stint in Indianapolis ended after signing a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills in the 2018 offseason.

His Bills tenure was pretty short-lived after he bizarrely retired from the league after removing himself from the field during the first half of Buffalo’s Week 2 contest versus the Los Angeles Chargers. He later issued a statement confirming that he was walking away from the sport.

After that stunt, it seemed like Davis would remain out of the public eye. But he proved that wrong on Saturday.
